Independent Age Older People’s Fund

Good news!

We’re delighted to share the news that our application for a grant from Independent Age to help older women experiencing financial hardship was successful!

We are one of 18 organisations that have received a grant from Independent Age’s Older People’s Fund. This is a £2.1 million fund established to support charities assisting older women from racially minoritised groups who are experiencing financial hardship. Our funded project will help older women to secure the financial support they are entitled to and protect them from unfair costs.

This funding will help us extend our support to meet the demand on our services over the coming years. It allows us to support not only those who are already familiar with our work but also to engage with new service users, helping us to make a broader positive impact.

We would like to thank Independent Age for their funding, which will help us support more older people in the community.

Rising Costs Force Older People to Drain Savings

New research commissioned by the charity Independent Age indicates that one in four older people (24%) had to rely on savings last winter to help cover daily living costs, such as increased heating bills and soaring supermarket prices. The cost-of-living crisis is adversely affecting many older people, forcing some into dangerous cost-cutting measures and debt as they don’t have enough to cover the essentials.
Despite available support for the cost of living, many remain unaware of the financial support they could be entitled to from their utility companies or local authority.
